The Crydom D53TP50D is a DC input, three-phase solid state relay capable of switching 50 amp three-phase loads at line voltages between 48Vac and 530Vac. The output circuit consists of three pairs of SCRs (Silicon Controlled Rectifiers) configured in inverse-parallel, with each set connected to one leg of a three-phase load. When a 4-32Vdc input signal is applied, all three output channels of the solid state relay are “triggered”, allowing load-current to flow through the three-phase load.
The Crydom D53TP50D is a zero-crossing solid state relay. When an input signal is applied, the output of the solid state relay will begin to conduct load current only when the AC mains passes through the zero-crossing point of the AC sine wave. This minimizes inrush currents through the solid state relay and reduces conducted emissions coupled onto the AC mains. The D53TP50D is suitable for both resistive and inductive loads with a power factor ≥0.5, and is ideal for harsh industrial applications.
The input of the D53TP50D can accept control signals between 4Vdc and 32Vdc and includes an active current-limiting circuit. The maximum current draw of the input circuit is 25mA @ 32Vdc. It also includes an LED input-status indicator, which allows for easy identification of the presence of an input signal to the solid state relay.
The HBControls D53TP50D includes a built-in MOV across each output (-6124 suffix in the part number). This provides additional protection from transient voltage spikes and enhances overall product reliability. The typical MTBF (mean time before failure) for a Crydom three-phase solid state relay is >7 million hours.
Thermal compound and a heat sink are required in order to prevent the solid state relay from overheating during normal operation. The HBControls HBC-T50DK solid state relay power controller utilizes a Crydom D53TP50D solid state relay pre-assembled onto thermally efficient heat sinks and fully derated for load currents up-to 30 amps per phase in a 40°C ambient temperature.
